Florence Theresa (Gaudreau) Franchomme passed away on Wednesday March 26, 2014 at her home with her loving daughters by her side. She was 87.
Born in North Adams, MA on July 11, 1926; she is the daughter of the late Osias and Albia (Babeau) Gaudreau and the widow of the late George Edmund Franchomme.
Florence was a 1944 graduate of the Notre Dame School. She was employed by Bell Telephone and Woolworth's Candy Counter in North Adams.
Florence moved to Valley Falls, NY in 1955 where she and her husband George opened and operated a dairy farm for 20 years. Upon selling their farm, they volunteered in the Peace Corps, serving 3 months in Ecuador and 2 years in Malaysia. They then traveled the United States as well as Europe, and assisted adolescents at the Davis Stuart home in West Virgina.
Upon retirement they purchased a beautiful home in Glade Hill, VA where they cultivated 78 rose bushes of all varieties as well as flower beds and fruit trees. Florence returned to Schaghticoke, NY in 1996.
She enjoyed card games, flower gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, reading, cross stitch, and bird watching for chickadees and hummingbirds.
Florence is survived by her daughters Donna (Bill) Fluewelling and Paula Franchomme, sister Lorraine Hurlbut; brother Norman Gaudreau; grandchildren Heidi (Joel) Caruso and Jason (Amber) Baczynski; and four great-grandchildren.
The family extends grateful appreciation to her loving caregivers, Margaret LaFortune, Linda Secor, Linda Casey, Donna Phipps, Maggie Skinkle, Linda Vogt, Virginia Vredenburg, Cheryl Thilking, Bonnie Wilcox, Kathy Shufelt, and Christina Dulac.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Home, 173 Main Street Schaghticoke for calling hours 10 am Noon on Saturday, April 5, followed by a funeral service at 12 noon at the funeral home. Following the service, there will be a gathering at Hildreth's Restaurant 201 North Main St., Mechanicville , NY for food and fellowship. Online remembrances may be made at www.chasesmithfamily.com.
