Everett W. "Butch" Hurd, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy with his loving family at his side. He was 73.
Born on October 18, 1939 in Troy, son of the late Everett W. and Elsie (Adams) Hurd, Sr. Butch is the husband of Kathy (Wright) Hurd whom he married on August 10, 1994 in Southwest Harbor, ME.
Butch had been employed at various garages as an automotive mechanic and as an engineer for the B&M Railroad. He was a member of the ADK 46ers and loved Acadia National Park. He enjoyed RVing, belonging to several RV clubs and remote control boats and helicopters. He was an avid hockey fan and was a championship drag race mechanic. His pride was his antique 1940 International Truck he called Barney.
Survivors in addition to the love of his life Kathy include sons Keith P. (Regina) Smith of Iaeger, WV, Jared L. (Sue) Smith of Sharon Springs, cousins David Tucker of Corinth, Karen Tucker of Rexford and friend Andy Sanders of Corinth and his grandchildren Alyssia, Chianne, Tristen, Alivia, Cassandra, Katelynn and Tyler.
He is predeceased by a son Ronnie L. Smith.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Monday at the Stillwater United Church. Burial with military honors will be in the family plot in Stillwater Union Cemetery.
