Niskayuna, Schenectady County Ernesto Barreto passed away on Saturday March 5, 2016, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. He was 81. Ernesto was born on November 9, 1934 in Bogot, Colombia, son of the late Ernesto and Evangelina (Gmez) Barreto. He is the husband of Ana Luca (Pramo) Barreto, whom he married in 1960. He became a US citizen in 1965. Ernesto earned a Bachiller in 1952 from the Colegio Externado Nacional Camilo Torres in Bogot, Colombia, and then studied physics at New York University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1958 and a Master of Science in 1964. He was employed in the NYU Department of Physics (1957-1959), the NYU Department of Industrial Medicine at the Bellevue Medical Center (1959-1960), The Marks Polarized Corporation (1961-1963), The Curtiss-Wright Corporation (1963-1969), and the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center of the State University of New York at Albany (1969-1999). Mr. Barreto is survived by his wife; a son, Ernest Barreto and his wife Terri of Centreville, VA; his grandchildren Simon, Oliver, and Rose Barreto; a brother, Jaime Barreto and his wife Helena of New Hyde Park, NY; and his niece and nephews Herman Barreto, Jaime Fernando Barreto, Martha Ratner, Alex Kobylarcz, and Andy Kobylarcz. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Gilberto Barreto, and his sister Ins Kobylarcz. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of his family.
