Cheektowaga, Erie County Ernest J. DiCerce, "Pop", of Cheektowaga, NY, formerly an 87 year resident of Mechanicville died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was 91 years old. Born in Mechanicville, February 28, 1932 to the late Stefano and Angeline (Provident) DiCerce. Husband of the late Josephine Joannie DiCerce "Queenie". They were married on February 7, 1956. He was a 1949 graduate from Mechanicville High School. Honorably discharged from the US Army serving in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He worked at the GE in Schenectady as a welder/assembler until retirement. He was so well known as "Pop" that he had a shirt that said: All My Friends Call me Pop. Above all else he loved his family, his daughter was always "Daddys Little Girl" and Nick, his grandson, was more than just the apple of his eye. He was so proud of both Darlene and Nick. Pop was always at Nicks practice or sporting event, he never missed them. Pop traveled to Las Vegas over 40 times, he loved the table game Let it Ride and enjoyed all the buffets. He was a huge Yankee and Giants fan as well. Survivors include his beloved daughter Darlene and her husband Joe Prusecki of Stillwater, NY. His one and only cherished grandson Nicholas Matteo of Cheektowaga, NY. A sister-in-law Marycarol and Joseph Lanzone, Carolyn DiCerce, sister-in-law of Mechanicville. Brother-in-law Robert Pfister of Clifton Park, NY as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings Daniel DiCerce and Stephen "Dutch" DiCerce. Special thanks to the Hospice Team of Cheektowaga, NY and his two wonderful, special care takers Kim Martin and Gina Foxy. Calling hours will be held on Monday morning, September 25, 2023 from 10 AM 12 PM at Chase-Smith Family Funeral Home, 319 Park Ave, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A funeral service will follow at 12 PM. Burial will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
