Elton F. Long left us to rejoice with his Lord on July 17, 2018 at the age of 95.
Elton was born in Frankford, DE on April 20, 1923. He was one of 9 children born to Sarah and Ivy Long. Elton attended John M. Clayton School and graduated in 1940, 2nd in his class of 23. In 1958 he graduated with a degree in Economics from Union College in Schenectady.
In 1941, Elton moved to Altamont, NY and started his career at General Electric in 1942. At GE, Elton met his first wife Marjorie and they were married for 60 years before Marjories death in 2002.
Elton had a long and prestigious career at General Electric. He started as a lab tech in GE Research and Development and through the course of his career he worked for International GE, Domestic GE, the DC Motor and Generating Department, Carbon Products, OEM Products for the Northeast District and traveled the globe promoting and supporting GEs products. He retired in 1985 but in 1992 he was asked by GE President Jack Welch to work on a special project in Russia for a year.
In 2003 Elton met his soulmate Nina (Caruso) Goedeke. They were married in 2003 and enjoyed 15 years together. Elton always enjoyed a good meal, reading his bible, a good jigsaw puzzle, the daily jumble, a good Yankees ballgame and a good laugh.
Elton leaves behind his wife Nina, many nieces and nephews in Delaware, Texas and Michigan, his stepson Arthur (Debby) Goedeke and their family, and his special companions: stepdaughter Anne Crandall and her husband David who he looked forward to seeing each and every day.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater, NY. Funeral will be conducted at 10am on Tuesday in the funeral home with burial in the Stillwater Union Cemetery.
