Elting R. Doughty, also known as Bud passed from this life on the morning of September 22, 2016, after a gradual decline in health.
Bud was born on October 12, 1934 in Stillwater, NY. He was the third child of Helen (Dyer) and Elting H. Doughty.
Bud enlisted in the Army at 18 years old. He was part of the 11th Airborne Division. After marrying his wife, MaryAlice, he moved to Washington, DC and then to Virginia while taking up a position at the Washington Potomac Electric Power Company. After a few years, he and MaryAlice moved back to Stillwater where he owned and operated his own business Doughtys Landfill for 23 years. He enjoyed gardening, tending to the care of his property, working on trucks, driving heavy equipment and was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. He also enjoyed spending time with friends at the American Legion in Stillwater and enjoyed having coffee at the local Stewarts. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Bud is survived by his eight children, Mark R. Doughty and his wife Kelly, Bruce E. Doughty, Marybeth Kolonsky and her husband Peter, Melissa Schriefels and her husband Eric, Tina Davis and her husband Howard, William Billy Doughty and his fianc, Amanda Squires, Rachael Tanner and her husband Tom and Christopher Doughty and his wife Jennifer. Bud has 23 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy VanVraken and his close friend Diane Ryan.
Relatives and friends may call from 2-5:00pm on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Funeral service will be conducted at 9:00am on Monday at the Stillwater United Church, 747 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Burial with military honors will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery.
