Eileen A. Gannon of Stillwater passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011 with her family by her side. She was 84. Born on January 10, 1927 in Cape Girardeau, MO, daughter of the late Florian and Lula (Smith) Armstrong. She was the widow of the late Martin E. Gannon. Eileen was a parishioner of St. Peters Church. She was a charter member of the Stillwater Blockhouse Committee and served as the Blockhouse publicity chairperson for 15 years. She also volunteered for numerous community organizations including meals on wheels. Eileen was named the Stillwater Citizen of the year in 2003. Eileen earned her journalism degree from the Southeast Missouri University and worked for various publishers in Missouri, Maryland and Maine. She was also employed by the Saratoga National Battlefield in Stillwater during the 1980s and 90s. Whether with family friends or solo Eileen loved to travel the world. She enjoyed many trips to Europe, the Middle East and North and South America. Survivors include her sons, Michael and wife Elizabeth of Benton, MO, Timothy and wife Lynnette of Johnsonville and a daughter, Bonnie Gannon and husband Howard Haswell of Pleasant Hill, CA., her siblings, Olive Keller of Cape Girardeau and Carl (Connie) Armstrong of Cape Girardeau, her grandchildren, Kevin, Connor and Ryan Gannon all of Johnsonville, Ian Haswell of Pleasant Hill, CA and Rebecca Gegg of Wichita, KS. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Martin, Eileen is predeceased by her son, Mark Gannon and her siblings Russell Armstrong and Bonnie Ludwig. Relatives and friends may call from 5-7pm on Thursday, June 23 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Friday at the funeral home with Fr. David Mickiewicz,officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peters Cemetery.
