Obituary

Edward C. Spooner of Croll Road passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 65. Born in Albany on August 27, 1952, son of the late Norman J. and Cora Mae (Pike) Spooner. Mr. Spooner was a Vietnam Era Veteran having proudly served at many duty locations in the U.S. Army. He received an Associates Degree in Agriculture from Cornell University. Ed worked at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center as a groundskeeper, landscaper and gardener for 30 years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, softball, gardening, traveling, going to the Racino and OTB. He was a member of the Mechanicville American Legion Post 91 and Lansingburgh American Legion Post 35. Around the house he was known as the "rough carpenter" who enjoyed spending time with friends at the Legion and his buddy Jack, his dog. Ed is survived by his companion, Marilyn M. Killary of Valley Falls, his children, Edward C. Spooner of Milton, VT, Shawn (Tanea) Spooner and their children Allie, Dylan and Madison of Jacksonville, FL, Eric (Samantha) Spooner and their son Grayson, Erics son Dustin and grandson Skylar of Green Island, Janet (Ben) Chandler and their children Jaden, Noah and Logan of IN, and Caitlin M. (Sean) Sherbino and their daughter Brianna, Caitlin's stepson Brody of Redwood and Caitlin's mother JoAnn (Ganong) Spooner, Ryland Killary of Troy and his siblings James (Tracy) Spooner of Albany, Norman (Nancy) Spooner of FL and Fran (Chris) Rossetti-Beck of SC . Relatives and friends may call from 10:00-11:30am on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the American Legion Post 91, 427 South Main Street, Mechanicville. A service will be conducted at 11:30am in the Legion with burial to follow at 1:00pm in the Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors. There will be a gathering to celebrate Ed's life at the American Legion in Mechanicville following the burial.
