Schaghticoke Rensselaer County Edward Daniel Smith, "Smitty", of Schaghticoke passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home. He was 84 years old. Born on May 2, 1938 in Schaghticoke NY to the late Warren Parmer and Mary Elizabeth Lord Smith. Devoted husband to Patricia A. (Howes) Smith whom he married on September 5, 1964. Eddie was a jack of all trades, master of none, but he could cob just about anything into working order, at least for the time being. He was employed for most of his life as a truck driver and mechanic, working for Rifenburg Construction and Hoosick Valley Asphalt. He thoroughly enjoyed working along side his brother Leon for his salvage company and also tinkering on vehicles for his daughters and friends. Ed loved to go for long spur of the moment car rides to Lake Champlain, his fathers camp in Vermont, anywhere in the Adirondacks, as well as taking many family trips to Disney. Active member of the American Legion Post 431 in Schaghticoke and a member of all the local area Legions as well. A member of the Lansingburgh Veterans Club and the Eagles Club in Saratoga. Survivors include his three loving children; Vicky Weber of Schaghticoke, Sue (Mark) Meddis of Valley Falls and Marybeth (Kenny) MacNary of Mechanicville. He was a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren; Elizabeth (Frank) Murray, Jessica Meddis, Kimberly (Jared) Clancy, David Luke, Cody (Sasha) Meddis, Justin (Danyelle) Meddis, Mekennah MacNary and Jack MacNary. 6 cherished great-grandchildren; Tyson Chapman, Madison Clancy, Remi Meddis, Porter Meddis, Cooper LaBarge, Connor LaBarge. Siblings; Maryellen Slezak of Amsterdam and Lois Carson of Schuylerville. Survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by siblings; Leon Smith, Warren Smith, Doris Russom and Richard Smith. As well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law Jack and Vera Howes. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 20th, at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Home, 173 Main Street in Schaghticoke from 4-7 pm. Remembrances will be shared at 6:45 PM.
