MARIANNA, FL-Edward W. Cavanaugh, 70, of Mechanicville, New York recently passed away at his home in Marianna. He was born on October 11, 1947 in Mechanicville to Grace and William Cavanaugh. Ed was involved with sports while growing up and after graduating Mechanicville High School in 1965 he went on to Hudson Valley Community College and State University at Albany, graduating with an Accounting Degree. Throughout his career, he was an accountant for New York State Thruway Authority, Walquist & Renodin, New York State Department of Health, and Peat Marwick. In 2003, Ed retired to Marianna for warm weather and sunshine. He was predeceased by his sister Joan and his brother James, both of Mechanicville; brothers-in-law Jerry Valoze of Melrose and Donald Simone of Rochester. He is survived by two daughters, Jessica (Jeffrey) Hladik of Niskayuna and Samantha (Neil) Dufresne of Schenevus; sisters, Rita (Gary) Lewandowski of Malta, Karen Valoze of Melrose and Mary Alice Simone of Rochester. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and two grandsons, Xavier and Malcolm. Eds family would also like to thank his friends at the Moose Lodge in Marianna, especially Bob and Rebecca Patnode. Calling hours will take place at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville, NY on Friday, August 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. There will be a private burial the next morning.
