Dorothea A. Melvin, 100, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa after a short illness.
Born in Saranac Lake on September 4, 1911, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Nelson and Amy Charland and was the last survivor of ten brothers and
sisters. She moved to the Capital District when she was a young adult. She worked at the
Watervliet Arsenal, the Telephone Company and for most of her career at Niagara Mohawk.
Dorothy loved to shop, do crafts, sew, knit and crochet, but her favorite past time was her family.
She loved to be with her daughter, grandchildren and her great children, whether she was swimming
in the backyard pool or going to the Great Escape, she was always happiest with her family.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Nadine Sagliocca, her granddaughters, Judi Bloomingdale
(Scott) and Barbara Scott, her great grandchildren, Nicholas and Alyssa Bloomingdale and Matthew
and Sara Scott. Her grandson, Michael Sagliocca predeceased her.
