Donald Herman Schroder passed away on July 6, 2022 at the age of 85 years. Don was born on September 21,1936 in Poughkeepsie NY, son of Herman and Gertrude (Wallwork) Schroder, and was the youngest brother to William Schroder and the late David Schroder. He graduated from Kingston High School and attended Ithaca College. He served in Germany in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 and received an honorable discharge. Don was employed with Grand Union Markets, Baby Butler Incorporated, Monarch Insurance and finally retired from Colony Liquor Distributors.
In 1968, Don married Barbara Spence, and resided for the majority of his life in Valley Falls, NY. Don was the proud father of son, John Spence Schroder of Apex, NC. Don enjoyed coaching the Troy Youth Hockey for almost a decade while his son was a player. Don was a member of the Valley Falls Board of Trustees, a devoted member of the Valley Falls Methodist Church, and actively sang for many years with the Valley Falls Methodist Church Choir. Don was an avid golfer and a member of the Battenkill Country Club in Greenwich, NY. Don enjoyed many days of golf with his brother Dave at "The Battenkill".
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Schroder, son John Schroder (Janice), grandchildren Private Jason Spence Schroder, Jessie Caroline Schroder, and Julie Wright Schroder. He is also survived by his brother William Schroder (Norine) of Atlanta, Georgia, and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Schroder of Valley Falls, NY. His brother David Schroder predeceased him last year.
In addition, Don leaves behind nieces and nephews Marilyn Thompson (Joe), David Schroder Jr. (Louise), Daniel Schroder (Krystal), Carol Bronk, Angela Donnelly, Jeanne Tromblee, Salvador Morley, Thomas Morley, Thomas Schroder, Philip Schroder, Martha Schroder, Carl Schroder, Ann Marie Schroder and many great nieces and nephews. His nephews John Christopher Morley and Paul Schroder predeceased him. His canine companion, Genghis, also survives and misses him.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, July 11th from 4-7pm at Chase-Smith Funeral Home in Schaghticoke. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12th at Elmwood Cemetery, Stillwater Bridge Road, Schaghticoke, NY.
