Stillwater, Saratoga County Donald L. "Big Daddy" Brookley, of Hudson Avenue passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 77. Born in Mechanicville on May 24, 1937, son of the late Loren and Ethel (Wiltsey) Brookley. He is the husband of Jane A. Post, whom he married September 3, 1960. Don graduated from Stillwater Central Schools, class of 1955. After graduation he served in the US Army from 1955-1958, then re-enlisted from 1959-1962. He worked as a Silicone Operator for General Electric, Waterford, retiring after 33 years. He is a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 490, member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater Elks 1403, a parishioner of the Stillwater United Church and a past Councilman and Planning Board member for the Town of Stillwater. Don was passionate for horses and was an owner and rider. Survivors in addition to his wife Jane include a daughter, Renee (Brookley) and husband David Dunn, Jr., his beloved grandsons, Daniel, Nicholas and Lukas Dunn, his sister Sylvia Luther all of Stillwater and brother-in-laws Joseph Merluzzo of Stillwater and Gary Post of Glens Falls as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters, Carol Wiley, Eleanor VanEttin, Marge DeCoteau, Elsie Grignon and Barbara Merluzzo. Relatives and friends may call from 3-6pm on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Monday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the family plot in Stillwater Union Cemetery.
