Obituary

Schaghticoke, Rensselaer Co., David M. Welch passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. He was 98. Born in Mechanicville on January 2, 1916, son of the late David M and Mary C. (Horner) Welch. He is the husband of the late Dorothy Williamson whom passed away in 2011. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, David also served as the Assistant Postmaster in Mechanicville for 37 years. After working for the Post Office, he worked for GE Silicones in Waterford for 10 years. He is a life member of the National Rifle Association, joining in 1949 and enjoyed traveling with his family, photography and fly fishing with the flies he made. Survivors include his son, David L. (Linda) Welch of Speigletown, daughters Deborah E. (Kenneth) VanWert of Mechanicville and Judith A. (Carlton) Phelps of Mechanicville, his sister, Dorothy Holland of Mechanicville. His grandchildren, Keith Phelps, Darren Phelps, Laurie Phelps, Mark Welch and Tonya Bechand. Great grandchildren Deborah Bombard, Guinevere Phelps, Jennifer Phelps, Austin Phelps, Amanda Phelps, Morgan Bechand and Madeline Bechand and great great grandsons Timothy and Nathan Bombard. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Welch is predeceased by his sisters, Marjorie Whalen and Helen Vega. Relatives and friends may call from 11-1:00 on Saturday, June 14 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral service will be conducted at 1pm at the funeral home.
