David Rathbun, 83, a lifelong resident of Stillwater, NY, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 4, 1941, to Kenneth and Florence Rathbun (dec), David lived a life of service, hard work, and love for his family and community. A proud veteran, he served in Vietnam as a Seabee, contributing his skills to the United States Navy's construction battalions. After his military service, he worked for New York State and later followed his entrepreneurial spirit to found RoofScan with his partner Chip Cipriani, a business that reflected his vision and determination.

David also dedicated much of his life to serving his community. He was the Mayor of the Village of Stillwater, NY, from 1979 to 1991, Captain of the Stillwater Rescue Squad, President of the Stillwater Library Trustees, Cub Scout Master, and a member of the Stillwater United Church Board of Trustees. He was also a proud member of the Stillwater American Legion Post 490 and contributed to the board of the Stillwater Union Cemetery.

David shared a lifetime of love with his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 63 years, Phyllis (Coons) Rathbun, who stood by his side through every chapter of his life. Together, they raised two sons, Richard (Melissa) and Randy (Denise), who carry forward his legacy of strength and compassion. David's pride and joy extended to his grandchildren, Conner, Danielle (Christopher), Christine, and his great-grandson, Theo, whose laughter brought him immense joy. David was predeceased by his brother Richard and is survived by his aunt, Eleanor Woods (Late Roy); sister-in-law, Sherry Rathbun; nieces, Leona Rathbun (David), Marybeth Ruttan (Floyd); nephews, Brian Rathbun (Sandy), Robert Laisdell (Kate), James Laisdell (Melanie), Scott Laisdell (Patty) and Todd Laisdell (Lynette); cousins Craig, Jeff, Kim and Duane Woods

David will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his work. His sharp wit, gentle humor, and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

David's memory will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him and the community he served so selflessly.
