Corinne Williams, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19th in the Progressive Care Unit at Samaritan Hospital. She suffered a stroke at home on October 9th and showed all her strength to carry her earthly journey forward ten more days. This gift allowed her family, in body and spirit, to gather around her and send her off with all the love and appreciation a group of seven children (and spouses), 20 grandchildren (and spouses) and 26 great grandchildren could muster.
Born Katherine Corinne Madigan on August 23, 1933 to Mary and Bernard Madigan of Melrose, N.Y. She was sister to Nancy (Jim Djernes), June (Wilbur Simon) and Charles (Eva) Madigan. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1949 at the age of sixteen. She married the love of her life, Forrest "Pete" Williams, on November 3, 1951. She became mother to Timothy (Karen), Thomas (Trish), Daniel (Patti), Melissa (Bill), Melanie (Dick), David (Laura) and Michael (Cindy).
She had a second career working for the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finances for 20+ years. In retirement she became the secretary for the Adirondack Fiddlers Club in Schuylerville, NY.
She is Gram to Amber, Greg, Nathan, Meghan, Jessica, Kimberly, Christopher, Shannon, Jarrod, Jason, Laura, Aaron, Stephen, Theresa, Scott, Kira, Sophie, Hannah, Abel and Ruby. She is Mimi to Forrest, Alexander, Madison, Rory, Hudson, Charlotte, Ethan, Ada, River, Michaela, Violet, Lyra, Llewyn, Julius, Birk, Oliver, Silas, Calvin, Cade, Sylvie, Hazel, Liam, Avery and Avett.
She is Aunt Corinne to countless nieces and nephews and sister in law to Uncle Larry and Aunt Rose Williams of Clifton Park, NY.
She will be remembered for so many things. Her 62 year marriage to Pete, full of devotion to family and one another and full of joyful and effortless dancing to jitterbugs and squares throughout the years. Her magical kitchen and the skills therein that produced meals (always on time) to feed any and all who entered her home at dinnertime. Her baking prowess that conjured apple pies, banana breads and so many batches of cookies to be enjoyed at the many family gatherings. Her exuberant attendance at the many soccer games her kids (and grandkids and great grandkids) participated in with her knowledge and passion ringing from the sidelines. Her handwritten birthday cards and letters that arrived invariably on time and always with good advice and a little spending money.
She will be remembered for the strength she showed in caring for Pete during his 10 year struggle with Alzheimers Disease before succumbing under her watchful care at home on Feb. 15th, 2014.
She is remembered as the Matriarch to our big old Irish Catholic clan, as the mother who read to us nightly, provided clean clothes daily, demanded good grades, let us make mistakes, allowed us to roam freely on the family farm, congratulated us on successes and consoled us during times of disappointment.
She is the end of an era. She will be remembered and missed.
There will be a Mass of Remembrance on December 10, 2023 at 8:30am at Transfiguration Parish in Schaghticoke. Any donations can be made to Diver Library in Schaghticoke.
