Charles F. Yarter of County Road 54 passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Vermont Veteran's Home in Bennington, Vermont. He was 90. Born on August 21, 1924 in Troy, son of the late Francis and Mabel (Kemp) Yarter. He is the husband of the late Gladys (Harmon) Philpott, whom he married on September 5, 1953 in Easton. A veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII, he worked for the Parkside Market in Schaghticoke and went on to retire from Grand Union where he worked as a butcher. Chuck was a charter member of the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his nephews, David (late Victoria) Yarter and sons David, Jr. and Matthew, Bruce (Debbie) Yarter of South Glens Falls and daughter Hanna, his niece, JoAnn (Wim) Niles of Latham and son Nicholas, his step daughter Diane (late Harold) DeLurey and step son Leon (Joan) Philpott both of Mechanicville, his step grandchildren, Jo-Anne, Cheryl, Holly, Cindi, Randy, Linda and Amy, and several step great grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call from 4-6pm on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke.
