Butch Bernhard F. Volpp of Casey Road, Schaghticoke, passed away Thursday evening, Sept. 8, 2011 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 59. Born on September 2, 1952 in Johnstown, he is the son of the late Bernhard F. and M. Louise Pettingil Volpp, Sr. On July 21, 2007, he married his longtime love, Linda Lin Leibert-Volpp. Butch was teacher and instructor for the Questar III program in Rensselaer County, most recently he worked at his own Alma Mater, Hoosic Valley Central in Schaghticoke where he got to work with the children and grandchildren of the people he went to school with. He loved teaching his students in class and in the shop, where he shared his passion for being an Auto Body Technician and restoring street rods. He also was an avid outdoorsman; he especially loved hunting and fishing. Butch was a founding member of the Winding Hill Sportsman Club in the Adirondacks, where he also spent much of his time at their camp. Butch was a member of the Elks in Ticonderoga, NY B.P.O.E. 1494. He was well known in the area for being an aspiring chef and he loved to cook for his friends. Before his illness he was in the process of opening his own catering business, "Who Cooks For You". In addition to his loving wife, Lin, he is survived by his siblings, Gretchen Volpp of Mechanicville and Fred and wife Dolly of Johnstown, his mother in law Marge Leibert of Brunswick and is the brother in law of Ed and wife Joann Leibert of Clifton Park, Andy and wife Brenda Leibert of Lansingburgh and Paula and husband Richard (Dick) Amann of Johnsonville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Butch never had any children but he had a wide circle of friends that can never be broken. When he took you into his heart you had no choice but to love him back. A celebration of Butchs life will be held at the VFW Post #1938 Valley Falls on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 2:00pm. Family and friends are invited to share a memory and reflect on his life.
