Obituary

Mrs. Bernadette (Marra) Czajkowski, 81, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on October 27, 2026 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Berna was born to the late Patrick and Florence (DiPasquale) Marra, on March 11, 1945. She graduated from Mechanicville High School and worked at First Trust Company in Albany for a brief period. In 1966 she accepted a position at GE Silicones in Waterford, where she would work in the payroll department for the next 39 years. She was a communicant of All Saints on the Hudson Catholic Church and Corpus Cristi Catholic Church, where she attended daily mass.

Bernadette married her high school love, Ronald, on May 20, 1967. They built their home on Ron’s family farmland where they would raise their family and spend their entire lives. In 2004 Ron was stricken with a heart attack and that was the day Berna stepped into action as the ultimate caregiver, supporting him through his heart transplant journey.

She always put family first, often putting her own needs and wants aside; her family meant everything to her. She enjoyed traveling, horses, watching westerns, John Deere tractors, attending sporting events, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include her two children, Ronald and Joanne Czajkowski of Mechanicville and Jennifer and Andre Burton of Mechanicville, her grandchildren Lillian (Steven) Bender, Brooke and Andrew Burton, and Kyle Czajkowski; her great grandsons Cameron and Lucas, her sisters Marie (Roger) Bombardier, Patricia (Mark) VanGuysling of Albany, and her brother Michael (Patti) Marra of Mechanicville, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ronald, of 52 years.

The family would like to thank the beloved staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, especially Dr. Panagiotis Konstantinopoulos and Susanne Menon, NP. As a result of their exceptional care, Bernadette was able to participate in numerous clinical trials over the past eleven years, which she hoped will help with future cancer treatments. Also, thank you to her local doctors, Dr. Heidi Godoy and Dr. Christian Gasson for their care. A very special thank you to the amazing team of caregivers and family members that helped keep Bernadette at home, and comfortable, during her final weeks.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, (St. Paul’s) 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the church on Monday 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Mechanicville Community Center or Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Donate to Dana-Farber and help fight cancer | Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in loving memory of Bernadette Czajkowski.
