Barbara Ann McNamara OBrien of Clifton Park NY entered into eternal life on Friday morning June 7th at St. Peters Hospital surrounded by her five children. Barbara was the only child of the late Thomas J. and Margaret K. McNamara. She was born June 4, 1926. Barbara spent half of her life in the Bronx graduating from Cathedral High School and attending Hunter College. Employed by the NY Telephone Company and The Book of the Month Club.
Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Robert D. OBrien, whom she married on November 14, 1953. She devoted her life to raising her five children in Parkchester Bronx NY, Bethel Park PA and Clifton Park NY.
Barbara was active in many church activities in St Raymonds and St Helena in the Bronx and St. Edward the Confessor in Clifton Park. She and her husband shared a love on gardening, taking long walks in the neighborhood and local parks and traveling within the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She enjoyed water aerobics at Southern Saratoga YMCA and the Ciccotti Center, aerobic dancing, was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing and knitting, but above all enjoyed spending time with her family.
Barbara also volunteered at the Beltrone Living Center for the last 14 years as a floor Rep, Fire Marshall and Exercise Leader.
Barbara is survived by her children, Maura OBrien, Monica (Charles) Paddock, Margaret (Michael) Walsh and Kathleen (David) Triller and James (Jacquelyn) OBrien. Grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Colleen, Caitlin, Leslie, Meghan, Sean, Ryan, Fiona, Ryley and Noah. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Winter and Fox.
In addition to her parents and husband, granddaughter Lauren M. Walsh predeceased her.
Fr. Patrick Butler, pastor at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park NY, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday June 12, 2019 at 11:30am. Relatives and friends may call at the Chapel prior to the Mass at 10:00am. Burial will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville at 1:30pm.
The family wishes to thank the staff at LandMark, especially Doug, Chris and Aileen and the ER staff at St. Peters Hospital, especially Nick, Ken, Bill, and Dr James Cozens for your compassionate care.
