Rensselaer Co, Schaghticoke Arthur Henry Place, President and CEO of Arthur Place & Company, PC , and owner of Witenagemot Farm in Schaghticoke, and a founding member of the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market passed from this life into the next on Sunday, August 11, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on November 25, 1943 in Torrington CT, the son of Raymond and Marjorie Lewis Place grew up in Catskill NY, graduating from Catskill High School in 1961 and from Bucknell University in 1965. He served in the US Army 193rd MP Company and was stationed in Germany until 1967. He began his public accounting career in 1968 and founded Arthur Place & Company, PC in 1980, served on the NYSCPA board and was a founder and past president of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York. An avid outdoorsman, Arthur loved his many years on Lake George, as well as sailing, skiing, hunting and fishing. He especially loved working the land on his organic vegetable farm. From the inception of the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market until 2012, Tractor Man was known for his potatoes and his wonderful sweet corn. He liked the camaraderie of the farming community of which he was a part and he was never happier than when driving his tractor. Love of his hometown community never left him and he served on the Board of Directors and as Audit Chairman of the Bank of Greene County from 2004 until his passing. He loved to travel, but there was no place like home. Arthur is survived by his wife and partner, Susan (Fitch Youmans) Place of Schaghticoke, his children Lila (Marshall) Lucier, Derek Place, Audrey AJ Place, and William (Jessica) Youmans, his sister Nancy Place, his five grandsons Ethan, Zachary, Henry, Jack and Dylan, and his ex-wife and friend Roberta H. Place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 11am at Westminster Presbyterian 85 Chestnut Street in Albany.
