Arthur Joseph Overocker, Jr., of High Street passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.
Born in Schaghticoke, August 24, 1936, son of the late Arthur and Mary (Lesson) Overocker, Sr., he was a 1954 graduate of Stillwater Central School. Thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years as a fighter aircraft mechanic.
Artie spent most of his career working as a machinist for the D&H Railroad in Watervliet, retiring in 1991. He was an active member and past commander of the Earl J. Manning American Legion Post 490 and a member of the VFW Post 1938 in Valley Falls. Artie was also a parishioner and usher at the former St. Peters Church in Stillwater and a 20-year volunteer for Meals on Wheels. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the NY Yankees and NASCAR and took great pride in his flowers.
A proud father of two loving daughters, four precious grandchildren and three beautiful step-granddaughters, Artie enjoyed his life.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Jane (Armer) Overocker, include his daughters Marianna (John) Denier of Mechanicville, NY, and Stacy (Timothy) Sanderson of Schaghticoke, NY; grandchildren Mollie and Brianna Denier and Sean and Seth Johnson; step-granddaughters Christina, Margaret and Katherine Sanderson; brother Robert (the late Linda) Overocker, of Niskayuna, NY, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, James, William and Thomas.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, at All Saints on the Hudson Church, Stillwater. Burial with military honors will follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
