Allene Doriski (1951 – 2024), Schaghticoke, NY died Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at St. Peter's Hospice in Albany, NY. She was a graduate of Hoosic Valley Central School, Schaghticoke, NY. After high school she participated in the ribbon cutting opening ceremony and attended Schenectady County Community College and after a year transferred to SUNY Brockport attaining a BS in Health and Physical Education. Immediately upon graduation from Brockport she started teaching elementary school physical education and coaching high school sports at Hoosic Valley Central in Schaghticoke, NY retiring with over 30 years of service in 2008.
After participating in high school and college sports, she coached and inspired many Hoosic Valley Central High School students. She led by example. She bowled in several classic bowling leagues and was also the Troy Women's Bowling Association Secretary. Always up for an athletic challenge she paddled the first Cross State Canoe Classic from Buffalo to Albany (360 miles) for the American Heart Association with her sister coming in 2nd in the two women class. Next Allene attained her Second Degree Black Belt in Tai Kwan Do and then at the age of 50 ran two marathons – the first in Kona, Hawaii and the second at Disney World in Florida (her favorite). If that wasn't enough, she also gave ice skating, roller skating, snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing, compound bow freestyle archery and ballroom dancing a try.
She spent vacations traveling extensively through 47 of the 50 states; missing only Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. Without missing a beat, she always found time and was willing to help others, which included the care of her parents and her brother, John, Jr.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Viola (Isaccs) Doriski and a brother, John Doriski, Jr. all of Schaghticoke, NY. Survivors include her sister, Patricia Doriski Andes of Schaghticoke, NY, her brother, Alvin (Connie) Doriski of Phoenix, AZ, her aunt, Helen Doriski of Schaghticoke, NY, her uncles, George (Barbara) Doriski of Fayetteville, NC and Theodore (Shirley) Doriski of Jacksonville, NC and several cousins.
Visiting will be on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 10am-12noon at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke, NY. A funeral service will be held at noon in the funeral home with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke, NY.
The family would like to thank the staff of Community Hospice at St. Peter's for their care and kindness for Allene.
