Valley Falls, Rensselaer County Allen LeGrand Sheldon of Sproat Road passed away at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center on Friday, February 13, 2015 joining the love of his life Lois Anne. He was 90. Born on March 7, 1924 in Schaghticoke, son of the late Charles Wilson and Nettie May (Allen) Sheldon. Mr. Sheldon operated the Valley Guernsey Farms on Sproat Road in Valley Falls for many years, where he and Lois raised their family. During that time he also drove school bus for the Hoosic Valley School System. He also worked for the DOT, drove truck and worked in paving - in later years he sold fire wood and taught his family many lessons working the land. He was affectionately known as the 'Jack of all trades, master of none' and could handle any task that came his way. He and his wife were very active in the community and loved square dancing with the Heldeberg Twirlers. They also enjoyed camping and traveling the New England coast with his wife and family. Survivors include their children, Timothy (Elizabeth) Sheldon of Camillus, Bonnie Lee Russell of Colonie, David (Sally) Sheldon of Stillwater and Gregory (Tina) Sheldon of Valley Falls, his brother Wayne (Shirley) Sheldon of Schaghticoke and his beloved grandchildren Jennifer Sheldon, Amanda Sheldon, Caitlin Sheldon, Victoria Sheldon, James A. Russell, Sarah Sheldon and Ethan Sheldon as well as two great grandchildren Crystal and Chance. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his sister Gertrude Sheldon and a son in law James Russell III. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 10am at the Christ United Methodist Church, 22 Bridge Street, Johnsonville. Interment in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery will be in the spring.
