Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County Alice M. Bayly passed away peacefully at her home on May 15, 2023 with her family at her side. Alice was born on December 1, 1925 in Center township, Wisconsin to Roscoe J and Susie B. Atkinson. She was raised on a large dairy farm and was extremely skilled at raising and showing dairy cows. A source of life long pride was her accomplishment of winning the 1937 Wisconsin State Fair Grand Champion with her cow, Inca Ollie Peter G. Fobes. Alice would herd cattle with her precious horse, Lady. As a member of the greatest generation, Alice left home soon after high school to join the war effort. She became an airplane mechanic, repairing damaged US bombers at Ogden Field in Utah. From there she moved to Chicagos Hill Field where she met and fell in love with the love her life, Cpl. Thomas "Tucker" Bayly returning from duty in the South Pacific. They married on March 1st and began an adventure that lasted 53 years. Alice and Tom had 11 children, 33 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. They started their life farming in Wisconsin, then moved back to NY where they moved from Poestenkill to Schaghticoke. Alice was a licensed insurance broker and helped to build a thriving business in construction and real estate. One thing gave Alice an extreme sense of pride was being named one of the first women owned businesses in New York State. Although Alice took a non-traditional path professionally as an airplane mechanic and later as President and CEO of Kingsley Arms, Inc., her greatest joy came from time spent with her large family. Alice was a trend setter in farm to table. Along with her husband and family they grew and harvested the majority of their food. Alice canned, froze, and preserved everything from tomatoes to strawberries. Apple pies were Alices trademark as her grandchildren, neighbors and friends would attest Alices pies were second to none. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas L Bayly, her beloved son, Edward T. Bayly and his wife, Barbara Morin Bayly and her treasured grandson Jonathan B. Bayly. Her legacy of being strong, uncompromising, generous and wise will live on through her children, Thomas L. Jr.(Maureen), George J., Richard Y.(Janet), Harry A.(Joan), Robert W.(Diane), Mary B. Overocker (Jeffrey), Margaret J. Rockwell (Timothy), Michael J.(Jeri), Alicia B. Lipinski (William), Patricia A.Hatfield (Harold) and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral mass will be at 10am on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Transfiguration Parish, Schaghticoke. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Schaghticoke.
