Albert J. McDonald, Sr., of East Street passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at his residence with his family at his side. He was 92.
Born on May 4, 1921 in Crown Point, son of the late Albert J. and Rebecca (Trudell) McDonald. He is the husband of the late Bertha Mary (Mitchell) McDonald whom he married on July 20, 1947 at St. John's church.
A veteran of the United States Army, Al served during World War II. He had been employed by the Watervliet Arsenal and was a founding member of the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad, past Commander of the American Legion Post 731, past Mayor of the Village of Schaghticoke and an active parishioner at the Transfiguration Parish.
Survivors include his children, Albert (Late Gayle) McDonald, Jr., Patricia McDonald, James McDonald all of Schaghticoke and Kathy (Thomas) Sweeney of Cohoes. His siblings, Helen McDonald of Pleasantdale and George (Ursula) McDonald of Gloversville. His grandchildren Christopher, Matthew (Beth), Michael, Katie and Brian Sweeney, Kristen (Nick) Hawkyard, AJ (Christina) and Michael McDonald and Enzo and Sabrina Scott and Great Grandchildren Adin, Jasmine, Breanna McDonald and Arianna Hawkyard as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by a sister Margaret Morton.
Relatives and friends may call from 5-7pm on Tuesday, February 11, at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral Service will be conducted Wednesday at 9am at the Transfiguration Parish, Route 40 Schaghticoke.
Burial with military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Schaghticoke in the Spring.
