Aileen A. Hemstreet, 94 passed away at her home surrounded by her large and loving family
on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.
Born in Mechanicville, NY on December 14, 1926, she was the daughter of Aileen and Percy
Aldrich. She spent her growing up years in Stillwater, working in her father's service station. She
graduated from Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont in 1948.
In 1948 she married Stanley W. Hemstreet of Schaghticoke, NY. Her life would become one of
loving and devoted support for her husband as he climbed the ranks of the military to retire Brig.
General and commander of the Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia. Throughout her nearly 60
year marriage she and Stanley resided at the Hemstreet Farm in Schaghticoke, where they raised their
five children. Aileen was the powerful center around which all things home and family revolved.
Aileen was actively involved in the efforts to restore the Knickerbocker Mansion in
Schaghticoke. She could be found in the kitchen at every event held by the Historical society. Her
signature molasses cookies will forever be remembered and sorely missed.
Aileen is predeceased by her husband, Stanley, daughter Stana Iseman and granddaughter
Emma Durrant, as well as her sisters, Priscilla Bryan, Lenetta Nelson and Jeannine (Heidi) Crandall.
She is survived by her sister Myrna Gaylord and brother, Milton (Butch) Aldrich.
She is also survived by four children, Aileen Durrant, Leslie Allen (Eric), Steven Hemstreet
(Joanne) and Hollie McNeil (Gary), and son-in-law Robert Iseman (Dulce) 17 grandchildren: Robert
(Lynn), Nathan (Jeannie), Rebeckah (Roger), Christine (Randall), Susan, Scott (Elyse), John (Jackie)
Iseman, Greg (Michaela) and Alida Durrant, Robin (Michael), Eben (Patricia), Ethan (Nichole), Clayton
(Kaitlynn) Allen, Jacob Hemstreet, Alex (Ryan), Sean (Dave), Maxwell McNeil. And 18 (soon to be
20) great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be at Aileen's home at 36 Hemstreet Road, Schaghticoke, NY from 2-6 on
Saturday, April 17, 2021. Covid safety protocol will be in place with a request for masks and social
distancing.
She will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery, in Schaghticoke next to her husband and daughter in
a private family service.
