Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County Agnes D. "Nana" (Callahan) Ryan of Stillwater Bridge Road passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. She was 92 years old. Born at the Cohoes Hospital on September 30, 1931, daughter of the late John Patrick and Nora (Greeley) Callahan. She is the widow of the late David James Ryan. Agnes grew up in Mechanicville and graduated from Catholic High, class of 1949. She started her switchboard career with New York Telephone in Mechanicville. She was married on June 9, 1956, to David James Ryan. After they were married, Agnes moved to the Ryan Family Farm which she operated with David. Over the years, she worked as a part time switchboard operator for St. Marys Hospital, was a substitute teacher at Hoosic Valley Central Schools and was part of the Hoosic Valley Fire Department phone tree. Her biggest accomplishment was raising her seven sons. Her family was everything to her. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her "Angels", and they were her everything. "They always made her heart sing". She was a parishioner of All Saints on the Hudson, St. Peters Church. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and was deep in her faith and prayed the Daily Novena. She was kind and caring, never selfish, always putting others before herself even in her final days. Agnes is survived by her seven sons, Michael (Shannon), John (Cheryl), Peter (Linda), David (Widilia), Paul, James, and Thomas. She is also survived by her adoring Grandchildren, Jeremy (Joe Jones), Meghan (Dan King), Brendan (Lauren), Kayla (Kevin Yandon), Emily, Brooke (Matt Spano), Brianna (Chad Houle), Serenna, Kyle (Paige), Connor, Bridget (Matt Marvin) and Zachary (Grace Momrow) and beloved Great Grandchildren, Ryan King, Calvin King, Emmalyn Yandon, Macallan Yandon, Colton Houle, Viella Mayo, Dax Mayo, and Jack Thomas Ryan. Her brother Father Zachary Callahan of Merrick, Long Island, her sister Honora "Kiki" Bendon of Stillwater and a sister-in-law Marie Callahan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brother John Patrick Callahan, Jr. a brother-in-law Jack Bendon and her daughter-in-law Heather Ryan. Calling hours will be from 4-8:00pm on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11:00am at All Saints on the Hudson (St. Peters Church) 895 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Johns Cemetery, Schaghticoke.
